Making time for drawing, painting and sharing a love of art

OK what’s this all about then, this Art Club?

Well I had thought I might join my local art club. But when I looked into it, I realised that I probably wouldn’t be able to attend all the sessions, you know how it is, life and work gets in the way. So then I thought, well if I ran an art club I could host it at a time that suited me. But then I thought, well that might not suit the participants, and what if they live too far away to come and visit anyway. All of a sudden this casual idea of maybe popping along to a local village hall to sit quietly in someone else’s class, has escalated into me thinking that maybe it’ll be fun to start an online art club of our own, that anyone can come to, regardless of where they live or what time it is. And so that is where we find ourselves. Welcome ladies and gentlemen to Art Club!

What is Art Club?

Our Art Club will be a lot like a conventional local art club, except it’ll all be online. Sessions will be published on our website and you’ll be able to access them on a day and time to suit you. Each session will have a video lasting at least one hour filmed in our studio. Accompanying the video we’ll also provide other useful stuff such as reference images, patterns or templates if we’re using them, helpful links, and any other information we think you’ll need.

We hope that Art Club will provide an opportunity for you to set aside a little time that’s just for you to devote to your enthusiasm for art and creating. Just as going to an in-person art club forces you to turn up and allocate the time, our online art club will give you that too.

What will we do?

We want to share our love of art with you. There is so much to learn from art history so often we’ll spend some time looking at paintings. We’ll experiment with different media, materials and methods. In each session there will always be a technique demonstration and often projects or activities that you can join in with and try at home.

Most importantly Art Club sessions will be very informal, yes we’ll talk about art, but in an approachable and accessible way. We’ll cover topics with enough information that you can be joining us as an absolute beginner, but we’ll always include enough information and ideas to challenge and excite the seasoned maker.

And of course we’ll chat! Alongside the video where we’ll talk about the topics in that session, there will also be a discussions board. You can post your questions there, your ideas on anything we’ve talked about and you can also share photos of what you’ve done inspired by the session. It’ll be a really friendly, supportive place.

I mostly work in textiles, is Art Club for me?

We often work entirely in textiles too! But we have a passion for painting, drawing and all of the things that go along with that, such as sketchbooks, monoprinting with gelli plates, collage, making rubbings, creating print blocks or stamps. We believe that there is so much to learn by enjoying art in its broadest sense. Yes, you might make quilts, or embroider, or stitch clothes, but you can enjoy art in all forms. Don’t forget, whatever your media and format, it all boils down to the same things - colour, shape, form, line, texture. If you already love art and art techniques then we hope you’ll love this. If you’re not sure, but curious and open-minded and keen to work more in sketchbooks, explore art materials and experiment with techniques then you sound just like the sort of person we’d love to see in Art Club.

How do I sign up?

Sign up for Art Club on our website! Each season of Art Club will have twelve sessions, each one published fortnightly. When you sign up you’ll have access to each session published so far. We have just added a pre-sign up option on the website which you’ll find here.

How much does it cost?

Each season of Art Club (twelve sessions) is £65. Once you’ve signed up you’ll have access to any sessions published so far and you’ll be notified as we publish a new session. As with all our online classes, once you’ve signed up to a season of Art Club you’ll keep access to those twelve sessions forever and can revisit and watch them as often as you like.
